Web

Worldwide international network of information exchange, also called World Wide Web (WWW). That web is woven between servers all around the world and allows to get at loads of sites, millions of them. Sites contain pages in the HTML format and they are stored in these servers. They are accessible to individual computers if these are fit with a modem and Internet connection.

Users can surf from site to site by clicking on hyperlinks. One can thus get texts, pictures, music, video, and one can also download software made available on Web servers.

When one is talking about the Web, one is limiting to exchanges through Web pages per the http protocol. Although this protocol allows more than text exchange there are other protocols for information exchange, namely those concerning e-mails. The broader term to designate the whole network and exchanges on it is "Internet".
